Jessica Hill He has been appointed Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Western New England.

Hill provides leadership focused on facilitating student transformation by helping undergraduates grow fully, realize their potential, and achieve their personal goals. “I will,” the university said in a press release.

A lifelong resident of Springfield, Hill began his career in 2020 as a director of college advice in western New England. Her previous experience includes several leadership roles at Springfield College, including the Interim Vice President of Student Affairs, the Vice President of Students, and the Director of Academic Advice.

A graduate of Western New England University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Hill has a master’s degree in psychology from Springfield College dedicated to student HR management in higher education.

Tiffany AppletonAmherst has been appointed chairman of the board of directors of the Dakin Humane Society in Springfield. She joined the board of directors in 2017 and served as its secretary from 2020 to the present.

She is currently an Associate Director at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and has been in office for the past two years. Prior to that, she was Director of Accounting and Finance at Johnson & Hill Stuffing Services in West Springfield from 2016 to 2020.

Appleton holds both a Master’s degree in Science Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She previously served on the board of directors of the Pioneer Valley Family Business Center from 2018 to 2020.

Three members of the Holyoke Community College faculty recently received the 2022 Courses of Distinction Award from Massachusetts College Online. They include: Jeffrey Cunningham (music); Sage flanetovich (Biology); Lisa Mahon (English).

Massachusetts College Online is a joint venture of public higher education institutions involved in the design, distribution, management, and evaluation of learning formats through online, mixed, and other technologies. The Courses of Distinction Awards recognize faculty members who best illustrate the potential of online education where course design and practice enhance education and learning.

Ashfield’s Franetovich and East Hampton’s Mahon won awards in the “Online Asynchronous” category. Franetovich was General Biology I and Mahon was English Composition II.

Pittsfield’s Cunningham won an award in the “Open Education” category, which incorporates free online resources into his Music Theory I class.

A wear-native working on community participation, he volunteers for Junior Achievement in Western Massachusetts to help present school-age children with lesson plans. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Franklin Pierce University.
