Discussing the most impressive sports records is a difficult task: Does longevity matter? What about a one-game or one-season explosion that has stood the test of time? Are older records automatically better? How do we take into account the changes that have changed some sports so dramatically?
Imagine going back 30 years and seeing NBA players routinely making 3-pointers in 2-1 fast runs. On the other hand, imagine watching a baseball player play his 2,000th game in tonight’s game, or trying to steal a base almost every time.
It didn’t happen – or it won’t happen now.
There are many records that will never be broken because people no longer try to break them. From May 30, 1982 to his September 19, 1998, Cal Ripken Jr. played in his 2,632 game streak. This is an absolutely ridiculous record. That puts him more than 500 games longer than Lou Gehrig’s second-place streak and about 2,400 games longer than Matt Olson’s longest active streak. It’s simply a record players no longer chase. It matches Ricky Henderson’s 1,406 stolen bases, nearly 500 more than No. 2 Lou Bullock and more than 1,000 more than active leader Dee Strange Gordon (336). Baseball has changed a lot, with smarter player health practices and the rise of advanced statistics and analytics.
It’s not limited to baseball either.
This is not to say that Ripken Jr. and Henderson’s record is not impressive. they are very impressive. It is also difficult to understand. Frankly, they can’t be broken even if people still try to break them, but the criteria for this list includes him two things. When still trying to break.
Cal Ripken Jr. and Ricky Henderson have great records. They are not on this list.

LaDainian Tomlinson Season 1 Touchdown
In the 2006 MVP campaign, Tomlinson rushed for 28 (record) touchdowns for a total of 31 (also a record).
Priest Holmes (2003) and Sean Alexander (2005) both scored 27 touchdowns in the season. Peterson (2009), Legaret Brandt (2016), Jonathan Taylor (2021).
Meanwhile, his 31 recorded touchdowns are three more than Alexander’s 28 in 2005.
please think about it. In 2006, Tomlinson recorded his 38 goal-to-go rushes. Only 12 in 2021 team There were at least 38 goal-to-go rushes. Even true three-down running backs who do a lot of goal-to-go work haven’t replicated Tomlinson’s efficiency. I mentioned Last year, Taylor scored in 13 of his 39 games, just his 33%. We’ve had a great season, big gaps, and 2006 LaDainian his Tomlinson.
Jerry Rice career receiving yards and receiving touchdowns
While Rice’s career is unmatched, two records stand out: 22,895 receiving yards (most over 5,000 yards) and 197 receiving touchdowns (most 41).
Cooper Cup will have to replicate 2021 season – arguably the best receiving season ever – 9 more times Ten more times to pass Rice for yards and pass him for a touchdown.
What about young players? Justin Jefferson’s 3,016 career receiving yards is the most for a player in two seasons. He only needs to maintain this pace for another 14 seasons to pass Rice by the yard. Rice also holds the record for all-time receptions (1,549) and he has the most 1,000-yard receptions in a season (14), but there are players who have come somewhat close to two, so here he is. does not include them.
Jim Brown’s 8 Rush Titles
Getty Images
Let’s get this done quickly. Brown said he played nine seasons in the NFL. He has won eight Rush titles. No one else has more than four he has (achieved by Steve Van Buren, OJ Simpson, Eric Dickerson, Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders). Durability, consistent excellence, absolute dominance in his position…they are incredibly impressive.
Every running back wants to be the best in the league. No one has come closer to owning that title outright than Jim Brown in a long time.
MLB
Nolan Ryan all-time strikeouts
Like Rice, this is an astonishing sheer magnitude. Ryan’s 5,714 career strikeouts are nearly 900 more than second-placed Randy Johnson and about 900 more than current leader Justin Verlander, 39. 2,600 times more.
Johnny Vander Meer’s Consecutive No-Hitters
This needs a little explanation. On June 11, 1938, he pitched a no-hitter at the Boston Bees. Four days later, he had a no-hitter with the Brooklyn Dodgers—no one wins three in a row.
Barry Bonds Single Season .609 OBP
In 2004, Bonds had 376 successful base appearances (135 hits, 232 walks, 9 hit by pitches). He only recorded 373 at bats. result? A mind-boggling .609 OBP, a record probably untouchable.
Bonds’ 688 career intentional walks
How much were opposing pitchers afraid of Bonds? His 688 intentional walks are more than double that of No. 2 Albert Pujols’s 316 (note: this stat has been kept since his 1955).
Ichiro Suzuki’s 262 hits in the season
Seven players reached the 250-hit club in one season. Six of his seasons occurred in his 1920s or 1930s. Another of his is his 262 hits, his 2004 record for Ichiro Suzuki. Considering the changes in the game, this is a truly amazing achievement and unlikely to be surpassed. Since 2004, the most hits in a season by a player other than Ichiro Suzuki is 225 by Jose Altuve in 2014.

Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 point game
There was no one like Wilt Chamberlain. Let’s start with the list of most points in the game.
Wilt Chamberlain | 100 | 1962 |
kobe bryant | 81 | 2006 |
Wilt Chamberlain | 78 | 1961 |
Wilt Chamberlain | 73 | 1962 |
Wilt Chamberlain | 73 | 1962 |
David Thompson | 73 | 1978 |
Wilt Chamberlain | 72 | 1962 |
Elgin Baylor | 71 | 1960 |
David Robinson | 71 | 1994 |
Wilt Chamberlain | 70 | 1963 |
Devin Booker | 70 | 2017 |
This is a lot of Wilt Chamberlain, but it’s the top number that interests us. Sixty years after that record was set, Kobe Bryant’s stunning 81 points against the Raptors in 2006 was the closest he came to breaking the record.
And even with respect to that Bryant performance, it doesn’t even come close.
Chamberlain played every minute of his record-breaking game. In 1961-62 he averaged 48.5 minutes per game. He attempted 63 field goals, which is still an NBA record, with 32 free throws. For comparison, Bryant has 81 pointers and he has fielded 46 goals and 20 free throws. I tried throwing.
There is one caveat here. About halfway through the fourth quarter, the team started fouling incessantly. The Knicks stopped Chamberlain from reaching his 100, and the Warriors recovered the ball and passed it to Chamberlain. A career 51% free-throw shooter, Chamberlain went 28-32.
Some might argue that the prevalence of the 3-point line could break this record. I argue the opposite. Jump shooters are generally less likely to score otherwise. Especially free throws. When Klay Thompson set his NBA record with his 14 threes in one game, he finished with “just” 52 points and the free throws he only made two. . There are 29 players who have made 10 or more 3-balls in a single game. The highest scoring game among them is Damian Lillard with a 61.
John Stockton has the most assists in history When steal
Holding all-time records in two major statistical categories is hard to guess, but that’s exactly what Stockton has: 15,806 all-time assists (about 4,000 more than second place) and 3,265. All-time steals (about 600 more than second place).
Stephen Curry’s 3,117 career 3-pointers
Curry passed Ray Allen last season for the most career 3-pointers in NBA history. At 34, Curry has plenty of time to improve his record.

Nearly All Wayne Gretzky Career Totals
If Gretzky hadn’t scored a single goal, he would still have the most points in NHL history. have achieved their career goals. plus Assists (Jaromir Jagr has 1,921 career points, second all-time). Adding 894 goals makes Gretzky’s point record of 2,857 ridiculous. Other notes about The Great One…
- Gretzky had 575 multi assists. Mario Lemieux is second with 282.
- Gretzky played 824 multipoint games. Jagr is second all time… 540.
- Gretzky has scored 50 hat-tricks. The current leader he is Alex Ovechkin … 28 people.
Speaking of Ovechkin, he’s one of Gretzky’s biggest threats. Fragile Record: He has 780 goals, Gretzky has 894.

Rafael Nadal’s 14 French Open
This article was inspired in part by Nadal’s 14th French Open title won in June. Bjorn Borg follows in his sixth place. In fact, the second-most men’s single major titles are Novak Djokovic’s nine at the Australian Open. The clay courts of Nadal and Roland Garros form a one-of-a-kind pairing. And he’s not done yet.

Secretariat’s 1973 Kentucky Derby
In 1973, Secretariat ran 1:59.4 over the 1.25 miles at Churchill Downs, a record that still holds nearly 50 years later. Only one horse has landed in less than two minutes since Monarchos in 2001. Each year, the Secretariat’s record becomes even more impressive.
Secretariat’s 1973 Belmont Stakes
After winning the Derby and Preakness, Secretariat successfully completed the Triple Crown, winning the Belmont Stakes by an astounding 31 lengths in a record time of 2:24. He remains the fastest ever over 1.5 miles on dirt in America.

Jack Nicklaus Top 2 Finishes in Majors
Every golf fan knows that Nicklaus’ 18 major wins are the gold standard and Tiger Woods is second with 15. His 37 top-two finishes in majors is by far the most. Woods is second with 22.
Tiger Woods tops official World Golf Rankings
Woods probably won’t catch Nicklaus in the majors without a miracle, but his reigning reign shows how great he was at the height of his power. Woods spent 683 weeks in OWGR. rice field. Next… Greg Norman from 331.
Nascar
Richard Petty’s 1967 season
Petty’s 200 career NASCAR Cup Series wins are nearly double that of anyone else. There’s a reason he’s called “King”. However, his 1967 season was particularly phenomenal, with his 27 wins, including 10 in a row. No one has touched 27 wins since NASCAR shortened his 1972 season, ushering in the “Modern Era.” But what about his 10-game winning streak, which is mathematically slightly more likely? It is not duplicated.

Michael Phelps Medal
Phelps won 28 medals, including 23 gold medals, during his incredible career. Of course, it was his 2008 that reached his pinnacle, when he won his eight golds in Beijing to break his Spitz record in 1972. Gold (and Silver) for 2016.
Five gold medals for Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi
Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi are a testament to longevity and superstardom, as well as their status as the only basketball players (men and women) to win five Olympic gold medals. These two icons of hers have long been the face of the sport both in international competition and in her WNBA. This is just his one of their many achievements, but arguably the most impressive one.
