Environmental technologies at the center of World Maritime Day 2022

The International Maritime Organization highlights the role of emerging technologies in supporting a green transition of the maritime sector towards a sustainable future. On World Maritime Day 2022, September 29, celebrations will focus on the theme “New Technologies for Greener Shipping”, providing a platform to showcase inclusive maritime innovation, research and development. , as well as the demonstration and deployment of new technologies.

In his message on the theme of the global navy, IMO Secretary General Kitack Lim said: “Our theme ‘New Technologies for Greener Shipping’ opens up a broader conversation on the direction of shipping and on how technology can be harnessed for a more sustainable future. It also prompts further consideration of how digitalization and automation can support shipping. But technological solutions for cleaner, safer and more sustainable navigation must also benefit people. In this respect, the impact on seafarers and other maritime personnel, including the need for training, must be taken into account.
