Visit local art studios with the MKE Fine Craft Studio Tour
14 different studios showcasing the works of 40 artists will be exhibited on October 1 and 2
TAKE A LOOK AT A CHANCE TO IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE LOCAL ARTS SCENE AND SEE HOW LOCAL CRAFTSMEN CREATE PIECES. THIS MORNING I WAS JOINED BY JEAN WELLS OF WISCONSIN CRAFT AND MCLAUGHLIN FOR A PREVIEW OF THE FINE CRAFT STUDIO TOUR IN MILWAUKEE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO YOU BOTH FOR COMING THIS MORNING. OUR PLEASURE. THANK YOU. SO FIRST, TALK A LITTLE ABOUT WISCONSIN CRAFT AND WHAT THE ORGANIZATION DOES. WE ARE THEREFORE A STATE-WIDE ORGANIZATION THAT SUPPORTS ARTISTS WORKING IN THE FIELD OF CRAFTS. SO WOODWORKING, CERAMIC PHOTOGRAPHY, GLASS, FIBER, ALL KINDS OF THINGS. WITH A BIT OF LUCK. AND THIS WILL BE A GREAT EVENT NEXT WEEKEND. AND KATE, TELL ME ABOUT THE ART YOU MAKE. THEN WE MAKE. I LIKE. IT’S AWESOME. AND ONE OF THE SPECTACULAR THINGS IS THIS WORK ON ANTIQUE MATERIAL THAT IS NO LONGER MADE. SO AS FOR EXAMPLE, THIS SET OF BLACKS HAS TAKEN TIMES AND CREATED A NEW CONTEMPORARY STYLE. SO IT’S A FORMER, THE 19 TEENAGERS. IT’S THE 1930s. AND WE MADE A BEAUTIFUL CONTEMPORARY HAT. AND HE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL. SO WHAT CAN PEOPLE EXPECT FOR THE CRAFT TOUR NEXT WEEKEND? SO WE CALL THE SELF-GUIDED TOUR. WE HAVE 14 DIFFERENT STUDIO SHOWS LOCATED THROUGHOUT MILWAUKEE COUNTY’S BORDERS. SO WE HAVE MY STUDIO, WHICH IS NORTH AND BROWN DEER, AND THEN SOUTHERNEST IS SOUTH OF MILWAUKEE. GORGEOUS. AND WHAT IS IT TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING AND BE ABLE TO HAVE AN EVENT LIKE THIS HERE IN OUR AREA? THE COLLECTIVE IS VERY EXCITING. I ALMOST WISH I COULD GO ON THE TOUR. BUT INSTEAD, WE WILL BE EXPOSED AND SPEAK WITH EVERYONE WHO PASSES OUR DOORS AND INTO OUR STUDIOS. SO I REALLY BELIEVE THAT LETTING PEOPLE KNOW WE ARE THERE AND THAT THEY CAN REALLY COME AND SUPPORT ARTISTS WHO HAVE PERFECTED THEIR ART FOR DECADES AND SUPPORT, YOU KNOW, BEAUTIFUL THINGS FOR THEMSELVES IN THEIR HOMES , THEIR RELATIVES. MM HMM. AND WHAT DO YOU THINK PEOPLE WILL BE BY? BY PARTICIPATING BY TAKING PART IN THIS TOUR NEXT WEEK, WHETHER IT’S SOME OF THE GREAT ART CREATED OR PERHAPS JUST SOMETHING THEY WERE SURPRISED TO LEARN. Well, what’s special about it is that you won’t just see great art or things that people are doing, but you’ll be able to see a bit of spaces where people are working. SO YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE TOOLS THE ARTISTS WORK WITH. SO I THINK THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING THING, YOU KNOW, WHAT IS SPACE, I THINK PEOPLE WILL BE SURPRISED, AS SOME OF THESE STUDIOS ARE SMALL, BECAUSE A LOT OF STUDIOS WORK FROM THEIR HOME . SO IT’S INTIMATE AND WONDERFUL. AND SO IF PEOPLE WANT TO GET MORE INFO ABOUT NEXT WEEK’S EVENT AND WHERE THEY GO TO LEARN. OUR WEBSITE IS MKE KEE, STUDIO TOR.COM AND IT HAS MAP, PRINTABLE MAP, GOOGLE MAP AND ALL THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS AND WHO IS DIFFERENT WITH EACH VISIT. STOP. GORGEOUS. WELL, ONCE AGAIN, I WANT TO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR COMING THIS MORNING. AND I’M SURE PEOPLE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE SOME OF THESE ARTWORKS CREATED, ESPECIALLY SOME THAT ARE FEATURED HERE BY KATE. SO PEOPLE, THIS WILL BE ON NEXT SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM 10 AM TO 5 PM. WE WILL MORE INFORMATION POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE. IT’S BY CENTCOM. AGAIN, THIS WILL HAPPEN NEXT WEEKEND.
