Love for Riley Dundy is in the air.
The actress, who graduated from Yucaipa High School in 2011, recently got engaged and is starring in a new rom-com arriving on Netflix on Thursday, Aug. 25.
“The trailer is really fun,” Dandy said. “This is the first feature film I starred in.”
Dandy, who began acting as a child at Yucaipa’s former Noble Hearts Theater, will appear in “That’s Amor” alongside Isaac Gonzalez Rossi.
She plays Sophia, whose work and relationships implode on the same day — her 30th birthday. With her mother’s help, she starts over and “she meets a dashing Spanish chef who might be the ingredient she’s missing,” says the Netflix trailer.
“I loved the script because the main character was literally me,” Dandy said about what she liked most about “That’s Amor.”
“Most of the time, when I read a script, I’m excited to have my own version of this character,” she said. But almost everything she says is what I mean.”
“She’s very clumsy and has a dry sense of humor,” she teased herself. “It’s a T from me.”
Dandy, who has appeared in several films and numerous commercials, won the part of Sophia after missing out on several parts with the production company for “That’s Amor.”
“I would get very close to the projects they were working on and they would say, ‘Oh, I’m going with someone different.’ I was a little discouraged,” she said. “Then they contacted me and asked me to audition for this movie called That’s Amor. I was able to do something during quarantine.”
she was wrong. I got that all important call.
“The producer called himself and said, ‘Hey, you’re our Sophia. Congratulations,'” Dandy said. “It was kind of fun. After not working for a while, what really felt good was the amount of work that had accumulated in this moment.
“That’s Amor” is just the beginning of Dandy’s recent work. She also has three other projects of hers slated for release this year. The independent film Rooted, a horror film currently making the film festival rounds, another horror film coming to theaters in December, and a Christmas movie for HBO Max will also be released in her December.
Dandy, who also starred in Netflix’s A California Christmas: City Lights in 2021, the 2018 film City of Gold, and Snapchat in 2018, said, “Weirdly enough, I’ve been living during a pandemic. I’ve worked the most in my life,” he said. Original series “Kappa Crypt”.
“It’s been a really exciting year,” she said. “And … ‘That’s Amor’ is kind of the first carpet that rolls out for the rest of the year.”
Maybe that year will also include a wedding. Dandy recently got engaged to actor Deniz She Akdeniz, who she co-starred with on HBO Max’s ‘Flight Attendant’. She says her date is not set, so who knows.
Whatever happens for the rest of the year, Dandy hopes ‘That’s Amor’ gets a lot of views on Netflix. And she hopes she can count on the same support from her hometown as she has for her other projects.
“Honestly, I was a little overwhelmed by the response from Yucaipa,” she said of her latest film, Christmas in California: City Lights. shows.”
She recently posted a trailer for “That’s Amor” on her Instagram account, which has been viewed nearly 24,000 times in just one day.
“I think most of the comments were really sweet Yucaipa people,” Dandy said.
If “That’s Amor” gets high ratings, Dandy hopes it turns into something more.
“Hopefully, we might be able to make a sequel, so I’d appreciate it if everyone could see it,” she said.
Dandy is also considering a Zoom watch party or a live Q&A on Instagram following the release of “That’s Amor.” Details will be announced when it is held.
But for now, the focus is on “That’s Amor” and getting everyone to see it.
“I recommend looking at sangria and food in one hand,” she said with a laugh.
