New Realm Brewing Co. has received unanimous approval from the City Council to offer live entertainment once it opens in its new location in the Harbourview area of North Suffolk after delays in resolving issues related to buffering and noise. I got
The location at 5941 Harbor View Boulevard will be New Realm Brewing’s fifth location, including one in Virginia Beach.
Council members were evenly split at the July 20 meeting on whether to approve the conditional use permit for live entertainment, and then voted 7 to 1 to put forward the 30-day issue.
But in the meantime, the project’s developer, Bluepoint Investment Group, met with the Harbourview Homeowners Association to develop a 30-wide property with one row of evergreen shrubs and two rows of evergreens, six evergreen rows. Suggested a buffer of feet.・Aluminum fence with a height of 100 cm.
Previous proposals included a privacy fence over six feet high and a 30-foot wide evergreen shrub shielding strip along the back of the lot adjacent to the residential area.
Blue Point has also had engineers conduct a sound exhibit outlining the loudness of live entertainment since the council’s July meeting. Tests showed it reached 70 decibels at the sound source, dropping to 40 decibels about 110 feet from the source, 34 decibels about 210 feet away at the edge of a parking lot, and 28 decibels at the nearest 420 feet away. A residential structure to New Realm’s Music Sources, which Kevin Wine, interim director of planning and community development, said resembled a whisper.
Mayor Mike Duman announced a $9 million project for a New Realm brewery in a city address in May. This proposal is part of Blue His Point on the Riverfront, an 18-acre mixed-use development off Harborview Boulevard. An $11 million Stay Suites hotel is also planned on the same site, but was not included in the permit application.
New Realm will have live entertainment outdoors, except during inclement weather that moves indoors. Suggested hours for live music are Sunday 11am-8pm, Monday-Thursday 11am-9pm, and Friday-Saturday 11am-10pm. New Realm’s regular hours of operation will be extended by one hour after the live entertainment ends.
The outdoor speakers were also suggested to be turned inwards towards the beer garden to keep the sound low. No music was suggested in the rooftop dining area. The beer garden will be dog friendly with tables, chairs, fire pits, outdoor tasting services, covered areas for water features. Beer will also be brewed on-site for the restaurant and tasting room, and project developers said the entertainment is family-friendly and lacks a nightclub atmosphere.
Alderman Roger Fawcett read a letter from HOA President Andy Sweet before submitting the motion for approval, stating that Sweet had met with Harbor View residents and said, “There are no current problems, and the CUP is on board. We expect it to be approved by the Board,” he said. (Wednesday). “
